Unit 12: SPORTS AND PASTIMES

Lesson 1: A – What are they doing? (1- 2)

I. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to:

- Supply for Ss the words with the name of sports, entertainment in English.

- Talk about the sports and entertainment.

- Know how to talk about their favorite sports and pastimes.

- Self – assess to know what they need more from the lesson.

1. Knowledge:

Words about sports and pastimes(swim, badminton, skip, volleyball, aerobics, table tennis, tennis, jog).

The present progressive tense: What + to be + S + V - ing?

2. Skills: Integrated skills (Listening, reading, writing and speaking)

3. Attitude: Help Ss improve their love for sports and pastimes.

4. Orientation of competence development:

- General competences: Self-study, solving problems, communicative, co - operative competences.

- Specific competences: Talk about the sports and pastimes they like.

II. TEACHING AIDS: - T’s note, text book, pictures, CD player.

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – up: Jumbled words (to remember old vocabulary they learnt –RECONITION) 5’

- Show the words in mixed orders on a poster.

- Ask Ss to look at the poster to reorder the words into the meaningfull words individually.

          belvalylol = volleyball    ccrose = soccer      lietoseniv = television

- After 2 minutes, call some Ss to write their answers on the board (T also checks some other Ss’ work)

- Have feedback.

- Use the words above to lead in the new lesson “Sports and pastimes”

III. PROCEDURES:

2. Presentation: 10’ (to introduce new words of the lesson and review on the present progressive tense – RECONIZITION) 12’
- Make a question: What is he doing?
- Ask Ss to look at the picture 1a. P124 and answer.
- Have Ss’ answer: He is swimming.
- Use the pictures on P124 to introduce new words.
	+ Swim (v) 	 + Play badminton (v)	
+ Skip (v) 	 + Play volleyball (v)
+ jog (v)	 + Play tennis (v)
+ Play table tennis (v)	 + Do aerobics (v)	
- Ask Ss to copy down the new words.
- Repeat the words in chorus.
- Read aloud the words individually.
- Give the structures and examples of present progressive tense.
 - A:	S + Be + V –ing.
	- N:	S + Be - not + V –ing.
	- I:	Be + S + V –ing?	Yes, S + be.
	 No, S + be- not.
 What + Be + S + V-ing?
Ex:	What are you doing?
	I am doing my homework.
	I am not doing my homework.
	Are you doing your homework?	 Yes, I am.
	No, I am not.
- Copy down the structures and examples.
3. Work in pairs. (to help Ss use the new words with present progressive to make questions and answers – UNDERSTANDING) 10’
- T and one S do as model. (1a. P124)
Ex.	T: What is he doing?
	S: He is swimming.
- Have Ss sit face to face.
- In pairs to ask & answer.
- Call some pairs to practice before the class.
- Have feedback.
- Play the tape (A1. P124) twice.
- Listen and check the pronunciation.
- T does modal with a good student.

I. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
+ Use sport and pastime vocabulary.
+ Talk about sports they play using the present simple tense.
+ Read and answer the questions about Lan and Nam.
1. Knowledge:
+ Vocabulary: Revise “skip, jog, swim, do aerobics, play soccer, play table tennis”
+ Grammar: Present simple tense

	S + V / V-s, es
2. Skills: Integrated skills
+ Main skills: Reading, writing,speaking.
+ Sub skill: Listening
3. Attitude: Improve Ss’ love for sports and pastimes.
4. Orientation competence development:
- General competences: Problem - solving, communication, creation and cooperation. 
- Specific competences: Ask and answer the questions about sports people play using the present simple tense.

- Elicits the questions and answers from Ss.
- Make questions.
- Have the answers.
- Write the model sentences on the board.

	Which sports does he play?
	He plays soccer.
- Ask Ss to give the forms.
	Which sports + do / does + S + play?
	S + V ...s.
- T gets feedback.
- T asks Ss to write about the sports they and their friends play.

I. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
+ Use free time vocabulary.
+ Talk about free time activities.
+ Ask and answer about what they do in their free time.
1. Knowledge:
+ Vocabulary: free time, go fishing, go to the movies
+ Grammar: Present simple tense

2. Skills: Integrated skills
+ Main skills: Reading, writing,speaking
+ Sub skill: Listening
3. Attitude: - Educate Ss love free time activities.
4. Orientation competence development:
- General competences: Problem - solving, communication, creation and cooperation. 
- Specific competences: Ask and answer the questions about free time activities.

III. PROCEDURES:
1. Check up: (to check Ss’ old knowledge about sports they like–UNDERSTANDING)5’
- Call 1 S stand in front of the class.
- Make question: Which sports do you play?
- Give the answer.
- Other Ss remark.
- Remark and gives mark.
2. Warm – up: Chatting (to make some questions to warm up and lead in the new lesson – UNDERSTANDING) 2’
- Make some questions to Ss.

What do you do on Sundays?
- Have Ss’ answers individually.
- Use the answers to lead in the new lesson.
3. Presentation: (to know some more vocabulary and grammar points to talk about free time activities - RECOGNIZITION) 10’
- Use pictures and situations to elicit new words.
